How Can You Support Loved Ones Getting An Abortion?
Once a loved one makes the choice to get an abortion, how can you be of help? What are the things you can do and say to make the process easier for them? Here are 4 comics on the support network for abortion seekers, from parents and partners to friends and service providers.
1. As a parent, understanding your childs needs, and that their context may be different from yours is the best support you can provide.
2. Supporting someone seeking an abortion can look like many different things. Sometimes the best help is logistical: making sure that your loved one has a ride to the clinic and help handling their daily life before, during, and after the procedure.
3. Supporting a partner who’s getting an abortion can mean making sure they can access abortion services physically and financially, and being there for their mental and physical health.
4. Providers are powerful in battling stigma. Creating a safe, clean, and supportive environment for patients, and taking the time to do thorough pre- and post-procedure counselling, makes a difference.
