My Panchayat, My Strength - Baadhte Kadam Panchayat Ki Ore!

22 March 2018

CREA has launched a new advocacy campaign against Gender Based Violence that connects grassroots organizing and technology. This month, the Meri Panchayat Meri Shakti ...Baadhte Kadam Panchayat Ki Ore (My Panchayat My Strength - Moving Towards The Panchayat) campaign, in partnership with our technology partner OnionDev Gram Vaani, has been releasing a series of Hindi language mobile phone stories for women across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, India. The stories address themes around gender discrimination faced by women and girls on a day-to-day basis. They offer validation of experiences and also possibilities for a journey towards transformation of patriarchal and discriminatory contexts. This campaign is part of CREA’s larger program Meri Panchayat Meri Shakti, working with a network of Elected Women Representatives, targeting the agents of change within rural governance systems and communities.

More about the program

The Meri Panchayat Meri Shakti (MPMS) program is working in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, with Elected Women Representatives (EWRs) of the local governance structures, the Panchayati Raj Institutions. As part of the program, the EWRs are sensitized on issues that affect the well-being of women and girls in the Panchayat such as Gender Based Violence, and are given the skills and support to raise these issues in the Panchayat for positive transformations. Under the vision of Feminist Leadership building, the MPMS program is enhancing the leadership potential and skills of local village-level women leaders, and building a positive ecosystem for women and girls.
