State-level Consultation: Strengthening Implementation of Laws on Domestic Violence and Child Marriage
CREA organised the two-day Consultation in collaboration with National Mission for Empowerment of Women (NMEW) of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, and Women Power Connect (WPC). Over 120 people, including project partners of CREA, NMEW, and WPC, Panchayat members, representatives of youth groups, government representatives, and NGO representatives and members working on domestic violence and child marriage came together to discuss these issues, with a particular focus on strengthening the implementation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and the Protection of Child Marriage Act, 2006. CREA's Ibtida programme partners and elected women representatives, who have been part of our capacity-building programmes, also participated and shared their experiences from field. In addition, Rashmi Singh, Executive Director for the National Resource Centre for Women (NRCW) of NMEW, shared her views on domestic violence and child marriage. She facilitated two sessions, in which government stakeholders from Bihar, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh shared their response mechanisms to these problem areas.
CREA, NMEW, and WPC will soon publish a report based on the Consultation and make detailed recommendations on strengthening implementation of laws on domestic violence and child marriage to the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
