Sex workers have a right to live lives free of stigma, discrimination and violence
Most sex workers face some form of physical, emotional, sexual and/or economic violence. The police
remains the biggest perpetrator of violence. If sex work remains criminalized, it becomes difficult to
seek redressal against violence.
Ashodaya Committee’ s (a sex worker collective in Karnataka) approach demonstrates how sex workers
are able to create the most effective community-led interventions to reduce violence, when they come
together and mobilize as a community.
